3. Non-standard approach: through the gas tank flap

If the mechanical cable is not accessible and the electronics do not work, you can try opening the trunk through the gas tank flap. This method is suitable for Rapid with a hatchback body (not for a sedan!). You will need:

• 🔧 Flexible cable or wire (diameter 2–3 mm).
• 🔦 Flashlight (required - the space is dark).
• 🧲 Magnet on a stick (for convenience).

Instructions:

1. Open the gas tank flap (usually it is not blocked by the central lock).
2. Insert the cable into the gap between the body and the trunk lid from the hinge side (there is less seal there).
3. Feel for the lock (it is located about 15 cm from the loop) and try to hook the locking tab with the cable.
4. Pull up - if you can move the tab, the trunk will open.

Important: on Rapid 2018+ trunk lock may have protection against such opening - a metal plate. In this case, the method will not work.

What to do if the cable gets stuck?

If the cable gets caught in the lock mechanism and cannot be pulled out:

1. Do not pull it - this will damage the seal.

2. Try turning the cable around its axis (sometimes this releases the hook).

3. If it doesn’t help, gently pull it in the opposite direction, rocking it from side to side.

4. As a last resort, cut the cable and remove the remainder through the trunk after opening it in another way.

4. Emergency opening when the battery is dead

If the trunk won't open because the battery is dead and the key is still inside, the first thing to do is try recharge the battery through the cigarette lighter socket. To do this:

• 🔌 Connect the portable jump starter (booster) to the cigarette lighter.
• 🔋 Wait until the indicators on the panel light up (at least 5 minutes).
• 🔑 Try opening the trunk using the button on the key or through the menu.

If there is no booster, and the trunk needs to be opened urgently (for example, to get the keys), proceed as follows:

1. Remove the plastic trim under the steering wheel (it is secured with latches).
2. Locate the wiring harness that goes to the ignition switch (usually the gray or black connector).
3. Disconnect the connector and close the contacts 15 (red wire) and 30 (yellow or orange) - this simulates turning the key.
4. Keep the contacts closed for 10-15 seconds, then try opening the trunk with the button.

⚠️ Attention: Do not short-circuit the contacts 30 and mass (black wire) - this will cause a short circuit and may blow the fuse.

5. VCDS diagnostic cable: for advanced users

If you or someone you know has a diagnostic cable VCDS (VAG-COM), you can open the trunk through the software. This method works on all generations Rapid and does not require mechanical intervention.
