On Octavia A5 the service position is activated programmatically via the control unit J400 (Comfort Control Module). Unlike mechanical lifting (as on old machines), electronics and software are involved here, which sometimes leads to failures. For example, if the battery was disconnected or an error occurred in the CAN bus, the wipers may “forget” their parking position.

Interesting fact: in some versions Octavia A5 with the system Kessy (keyless entry) the service position of the wipers is automatically reset when the doors are closed. This is done for safety, but often causes confusion among owners.

Standard way to activate the service position

Method 1: Through diagnostic mode (without scanner)

This method works on most Octavia A5 with block J400 versions 4E0 907 279:

1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Press and hold the button RESET on the instrument panel (to the right of the speedometer).
3. Turn on the ignition (POS 1).

How to check the wiper motor with a multimeter?

Connect the multimeter in voltage measurement mode to the motor connector contacts (pins 1 and 2). There should be 12 V when the ignition is turned on. If there is no voltage, the problem is in the J400 unit or wiring.

Diagnostics via VCDS (VAG-COM)

If none of the methods work, diagnostics using a scanner will be required VCDS. Here are the step-by-step instructions:
