You got behind the wheel Škoda, started the engine - and an unfamiliar icon lit up on the dashboard. Red, yellow or green, flashing or constant... What does it mean? Do I need to urgently go to the service station or can I continue driving? This article will help you understand all indicators Czech cars - from Fabia up to Kodiaq, including hybrids and electric vehicles Enyaq.
We won't just list the icons, we'll explain them priority (what requires immediate stopping and what can be postponed), typical causes and unique symbols that are found only in Škoda (for example, system indicators Travel Assist or Virtual Cockpit). You will also find tips on how to reset warnings yourself and when you definitely cannot do without diagnostics.
How does the display system work in Škoda cars?
Modern dashboard Škoda is a complex system that combines hardware sensors, software and displays. Depending on the model and year of manufacture, indicators may appear:
- 🔹 On analog panel (pointer instruments + signal lamps) - typisch for Fabia until 2021 or basic versions Rapid.
- 📱 On digital display (Virtual Cockpit) - in Octavia 4th generation, Superb, Kodiaq and Enyaq.
- 🚗 On head-up display (projection on the windshield) - an option for top trim levels.
The color of the icon always indicates degree of criticality:
- 🔴 Red — immediate stop (risk of breakdown or accident). Example:
⚠️ Oil pressureor🔋 Battery failure. - 🟡 Yellow/orange - requires attention, but the movement can be continued. Example:
⚠️ ABS faultyor🔧 Service maintenance. - 🟢 Green/blue — information signal. Example:
💡 Dimensions includedor🅿️ Parking sensors activated.
In models with Virtual Cockpit (for example, Octavia RS or Kodiaq Sportline) some indicators are displayed in 3D format with animation. For example, the icon 🚘⚡ for hybrids iV may flash during regenerative braking.
- Analog (arrow)
- Digital (Virtual Cockpit)
- Combined (arrow + screen)

Red icons: when you need to stop urgently
If the panel lights up red indicator, it cannot be ignored. Here are the most critical symbols and their meaning:
| Icon | Description | Actions | Škoda models |
|---|---|---|---|
🔴 🛢️⚠️ |
Critically low oil level | Stop the engine immediately. Add oil (if possible) or evacuate the vehicle. | Everything except Enyaq (electric car) |
🔴 🔋💥 |
Battery or generator malfunction | Turn off all consumers (headlights, air conditioning). Get to the service station by tow or tow truck. | Everything, including hybrids iV |
🔴 🚗💨 |
Engine overheating | Stop and let the engine cool. Check the coolant level (only on a cold engine!). | All with internal combustion engines (Octavia, Karoq etc.) |
🔴 🔴🔄 |
Brake system malfunction | Check the brake fluid level. If the icon does not go out, movement is prohibited! | All models |
The icon deserves special attention 🔴🔌 (charging system malfunction) in hybrids Škoda Superb iV or Octavia iV. If it lights up with ⚡🚗, this could mean problem with high voltage battery — in this case, the car automatically goes into “emergency mode” with power limitation.
⚠️ Attention: B Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé red icon 🔋🚫 points to critical traction battery failure. The car may completely lose traction - evacuation on a specialized transporter is required!
Yellow icons: what you can do yourself
Yellow indicators indicate potential problems, which require diagnosis, but do not always mean immediate stop. Let's look at the most common ones:
- 🟡
⚠️ABS— malfunction of the anti-lock braking system. The brakes will still work, but without ABS. Common reason: damaged sensor on the hub (especially after changing wheels). - 🟡
🔧- maintenance reminder. Appears 1,000 km before scheduled maintenance. B Octavia and Superb may be duplicated by the message on the display:"Service in 5 days". - 🟡
🚘⚡(for hybrids) - malfunction in the recovery system. The car will continue to move, but fuel consumption will increase. - 🟡
💡with an exclamation point - the external lighting lamp (side marker, brake light or turn signal) has burned out. B Kodiaq the system can indicate which lamp requires replacement.
Some yellow icons can be reset yourself. For example, if after changing the oil or filters there is a notification 🔧, reset the service interval:
Turn on the ignition (without starting the engine)|
Press and hold the button 0.0/SET on the instrument panel|
Turn the key to position ON (or click START without brake pedal)|
Hold the button for 10+ seconds until the message appears "Service reset"-->
In models with Virtual Cockpit (for example, Superb 3) reset is performed through the menu: Settings → Maintenance → Reset interval.
⚠️ Attention: If after resetting the icon 🔧 appears again after a few kilometers, this may indicate mileage sensor malfunction or an error in the control unit. In this case, only diagnostics will help.
Green and blue icons: information indicators
These indicators do not indicate malfunctions, but only inform the driver about active systems or modes. Here are the most useful of them:
- 🟢
💡— side lights or low beam headlights are on (mandatory during the daytime in the EU). - 🟢
🔄❄️— mode activated Winter (smooth start on slippery roads). Turned on by a button near the gearshift lever in Octavia and Superb. - 🔵
🅿️🔊— rear parking sensors work (in Karoq and Kodiaq can be duplicated with a audible alert). - 🟢
🚗💨with a wavy line - enabled cruise control (Adaptive Cruise Control in top versions).
In hybrids Škoda iV (for example, Octavia iV or Superb iV) there are unique green indicators:
- 🟢
⚡E-MODE— the car moves only on electric power (without starting the internal combustion engine). - 🟢
⚡🔄— the process of energy recovery during braking is underway. - 🟢
⚡🔋with lightning - the battery is charged from an external source (for example, at a charging station).
B Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé green icon 🔋⚡ with percentage indicates traction battery charge level. If it flashes yellow, less than 20% of the charge remains, and if it flashes red, less than 5% (it is recommended to connect the charger).
B Škoda Enyaq When the battery charge is low (<10%), the system automatically limits power to 90 kW to extend range. To remove the restriction, connect the car to charge for 10+ minutes.
Unique Škoda icons: what the rare symbols mean
Unlike other brands VW Group, Škoda has several exclusive indicatorsthat you won't find in Audi or Volkswagen. Here are the most interesting ones:
| Icon | Model | Meaning | How to fix |
|---|---|---|---|
🚗💤 |
Octavia 4, Superb 3 | System Travel Assist (semi-autonomous driving) temporarily disabled | Check the camera in front of the windshield (possibly dirty) |
🔑🚪 |
Kodiaq, Karoq | The key was not detected in the passenger compartment (system Keyless) | Move the key closer to the button START or replace the battery in the key fob |
📱❌ |
Scala, Kamiq | The smartphone is disconnected from Škoda Connect (no access to Apple CarPlay/Android Auto) | Reconnect your phone via Bluetooth or USB |
🔄⚡ (flashing) |
Enyaq, Enyaq Coupé | Active recuperation when braking (Level 3 on the D scale) | Normal mode, but you can reduce the intensity with a switch near the selector |
In models with Virtual Cockpit (for example, Superb Sportline) when activating the mode SPORT appears on the panel red and black animation with digital tachometer in the center. And in Octavia RS when turned on Launch Control icon lights up 🚀 — a unique “feature” for sports versions.
What to do if an icon appears on the panel 🚗💨 with an exclamation point?
This symbol indicates charge air cooling system malfunction (intercooler) in turbocharged engines (for example, Octavia 1.4 TSI or Kodiaq 2.0 TSI).
Reasons:- Leak in the intercooler system (crack in the pipes).
- Charge air recirculation valve malfunction.
- Contamination of the intercooler radiator (especially after off-road driving).
Actions:1. Check the coolant level (not to be confused with oil!).
2. Inspect the intercooler pipes for cracks or traces of oil.
3. If the icon is flashing, reduce the load on the engine (do not accelerate above 3,000 rpm).
In 80% of cases, the problem is solved by replacing the pipes or cleaning the radiator, but sometimes diagnostics of the turbine is required.
How to reset icons on Škoda dashboard
Some indicators can be removed yourself without resorting to the help of a service. Here step by step instructions for different situations:
1. Reset tire pressure sensor error (⚠️🚗!)
If you have pumped up the wheels or replaced the tires, but the icon does not disappear:
- Make sure that the pressure in all wheels is correct (see the sticker on the door pillar).
- Turn on the ignition (without starting the engine).
- Press and hold the button
SET/0.0(on the lever under the steering wheel) until the audible alert appears. - The message appears on the display
"Tyre pressure reset".
2. Reset ABS or ESP error (⚠️ABS / 🚗➲)
If the icon lights up after changing wheels or driving off-road:
- Check ABS fuse (in the block under the hood, see manual).
- Clean the ABS sensors on the hubs from dirt (especially important for Kodiaq after off-road).
- If the error remains, diagnostics are required (the sensor wire may be damaged).
3. Reset service notifications (🔧)
As mentioned earlier, the reset is done via a menu or button SET. But in some models (for example, Fabia 3) may be required:
1. Turn off the ignition.2. Press and hold the daily mileage button (on the instrument panel).
3. Turn on the ignition without releasing the button.
4. After 10 seconds, the message “SERVICE RESET” will appear.
⚠️ Attention: B Škoda Enyaq Resetting service intervals is only possible through diagnostic equipment! Attempting to reset manually may result in an error in the control unit.
If after a reset the icon appears again within 50–100 km, this indicates real malfunction, and not due to a “glitch” of the system. In this case, computer diagnostics is required (for example, using VCDS or ODIS).
When to go to a service center: diagnostics and cost of repairs
Some problems can be solved on your own, but there are situations when be sure to contact the service. Here are the criteria:
- 🔴 Red indicators (especially
🛢️⚠️,🔋💥,🚗💨) - risk of serious damage. - 🟡 Yellow icons, which are not reset after 3–5 ignition on/off cycles.
- 🔄 Flashing indicators (for example,
⚡🔋in hybrids) is a sign of unstable system operation. - 📵 Lack of communication with the control unit (the display shows
"No communication").
Cost of diagnostics in official services Škodastarts from 1,500 rubles, but often it is carried out for free if you agree to the repair. Here are the estimated prices for eliminating problems:
| Problem (icon) | Reason | Repair cost (rubles) | Deadlines |
|---|---|---|---|
⚠️ABS |
Replacement of ABS sensor (1 pc.) | 3 000–5 000 | 1–2 hours |
🔋💥 |
Generator replacement | 12 000–20 000 | 3–4 hours |
🛢️⚠️ |
Oil leak (replace pan gasket) | 8 000–15 000 | 4–6 hours |
🚗⚡ (hybrids) |
High voltage battery diagnostics | from 5,000 (diagnostics) | 1–2 days |
B Škoda Enyaq and other electric vehicles, the cost of repairing high-voltage components can reach 100,000+ rubles, so when red indicators appear (for example, 🔋🚫) it is better to immediately contact a service that covers the warranty on the battery (usually 8 years or 160,000 km).
If your car is under warranty, do not try to reset errors yourself - this may deprive you of the right to free repairs. The service uses special software (ODIS or VAS), which records all interference in the electronics.
FAQ: Frequently asked questions about badges on Škoda
🔹 Why on Octavia 3 after washing the icon came on ⚠️ABS?
Most likely, water got on ABS sensors (located near the wheel hubs). Try driving 5–10 km at a speed above 50 km/h - if the sensors are working properly, the icon will go out on its own. If not, the sensor needs to be dried or replaced.
B Octavia Combi the problem may be related to oxidation of contacts in the ABS unit (located under the hood on the left). In this case, cleaning the contacts with a special spray (for example, CRC Contact Cleaner).
🔹 What does the flashing green icon mean? 🚗➡️ in Kodiaq?
This is an indicator lane change assistance systems (Side Assist). It flashes when:
- Another vehicle has been detected in the blind spot (warning of dangerous maneuver).
- The system is temporarily disabled due to contamination of the radars (for example, after rain).
To activate/deactivate Side Assist, use the button in the control unit on the driver's door (icon with two cars and wavy lines).
🔹 On Superb 3 icon is lit 🔧, but that was done recently. What to do?
Probable reasons:
- The service interval was reset incorrectly (for example, only for oil, but not for filters).
- An old error remains in the control unit (reset via diagnostic equipment required).
- Non-original spare parts were installed, which the system recognized as “non-service”.
Try resetting the interval again (see instructions above). If it doesn’t help, contact the service for control unit adaptation (cost ~2,000 rubles).
🔹 B Enyaq icon appeared 🔋❄️. What does this mean?
This is a warning about low battery temperature. In electric vehicles Škoda the system limits the charge/discharge power if the battery temperature is below +5°C. What to do:
- If the car is parked, connect it to a charger (the battery will be heated from the mains).
- If you're on the move, avoid sudden acceleration, as this will put an additional load on a cold battery.
- Turn on pre-conditioning via the app MyŠkoda (the battery will warm up in 10–15 minutes).
The icon will disappear automatically when the battery temperature rises above +10°C.
🔹 Is it possible to drive with the badge on? 🚗➲ (ESP)?
Technically yes, but the stabilization system will be disabledwhat is dangerous:
- On a slippery road, the car may bring in during a sharp maneuver.
- B Octavia RS or Kodiaq with all-wheel drive, turning off ESP leads to incorrect operation of the Haldex coupling.
- In some EU countries, driving with a faulty ESP is equivalent to driving a faulty vehicle (fine up to €100).
A common reason is faulty steering angle sensor (replacement cost ~6,000 rubles). Less commonly, there is a problem with the ESP control unit (repair from 15,000 rubles).
